Faux Rush Week Main Event: Mud Wrestling and Foam Party

Social Committee will wrap up their Faux Rush Week festivities that included a pie eating contest, water balloon dodgeball, and a chug 'n' run on Saturday with the most collegiate of all athletic events: a mud wrestling competition… in front of Martin. Each hall council will nominate one mud wrestler for their dorm who will then mud wrestle against other participants from other dorms.

The winner will receive one hundred points towards their dorm's Faux Rush Week total, as well as a reward for the biggest cheering section. Following the mud wrestling extravaganza will be SoCo's annual, and notorious, Foam Party at 9pm in the Brickpit. Music will be provided by Hendrix College's very own emcee, Terrance "T-Mack" "T-Mackin' on Yo' Mama" Mackey. Watch in the Sunporch for wristbands, as SoCo has not yet determined their policy for the Foam Party yet. Wear clothes you're not afraid to get dirty or smell like coconut shampoo.

Poetry Slam

After the cancellation of last week's poetry slam due to inclement weather in the Southeast, the Burrow will host a new poetry slam this Friday, starting at 10 pm in the Burrow. There will be two opportunities to compete, including Original Works (self-authored) and Covered Works (authored by someone else.) Contact Dave Wagner at Wagner@hendrix.edu if interested in competing. Poetry Slam is sponsored by Student Activities.

Original Practices: A "New" Approach to Shakespeare

For all theatre arts majors and Shakespearephiles alike, James Mainard O'Connell, who graduated from Hendrix in 2003, will be conducting a workshop entitled "Original Practices: A 'New' Approach to Shakespeare."

The workshop will address what this new approach to Shakespearean performance is, allow members to be a part of the demonstration, and, if time allows, receive audience preparations for graduate school or summer stock programs. O'Connell has theatre experience in acting, directing, playwriting, teaching, designing, and building. The workshop will begin at 1:10pm in the Murphy Seminar room on Friday, and a reception will follow.
