While new restaurants are not exactly common in Conway, they do spring up occasionally. Unfortunately, many are just like the ones before them, serving the same old home-cooked meal with fatty entrees and buttery sides. Students who enjoy the taste of something a little more exotic than the traditional American take on foreign food have always had to travel to experience what they like.
Many students travel to Sekisui in Little Rock in search for good sushi and entertaining hibachi eating, but with the somewhat expensive menu and the higher price of gas, this trip has become much less popular of late. Luckily for Hendrix students who enjoy their raw fish, finding good sushi at a reasonable price just got a whole lot easier.
A new Japanese steakhouse and sushi bar has just opened in Conway and is already a big hit with Hendrix students. Fuji Steakhouse has barely been open a month and is already packing crowds in. Located next door to CiCi's pizza just off Donaghey, this restaurant is hard to miss with its enormous red and green neon sign. One reason the place is so popular is because it does something unheard of in the town of Conway; it stays open until the very late hour of 10:00 on weeknights.
The inside of Fuji is also a little bit different than most Conway residents are used to. Instead of the traditional square tables, uncomfortable high-backed chairs, and dismal décor, Fuji is beautifully decorated with Japanese style furniture, fabric, and beautiful artwork. The setting is made complete with a serene fountain near the front entrance. Customers will really appreciate the authentic feeling of dining at Fuji.
The food at Fuji Steakhouse is not too bad either. With a decent selection of sushi, sashimi, hibachi entrees, and many other choices, customers will have no problem finding a great dish to try. The very popular California rolls are just as delicious as the ones at Sekisui and are moderately priced. Fuji offers several other special sushi roll recipes, including the very unique Dynamite roll, which is actually fried.
Those who are curious about Japanese cuisine but are not exactly fond of raw fish have several other options when it comes to rolls. Fuji offers a large variety of vegetable rolls including the avocado rolls and the sweet potato rolls. More adventurous eaters can try the Oshinko roll, which is a pickle Japanese radish rolled in rice and seaweed. Fuji also offers several other great Japanese dishes sans the raw fish.
Not only does Fuji Steakhouse offer great Japanese cuisine, it also serves it up at a very reasonable price. The sushi regular entrée is served with seven pieces of sushi and a California roll, all for less than fifteen dollars. Hibachi lovers can get great chicken entrees for less than fifteen dollars and steak options for less than twenty. No matter what the choice is, it is definitely affordable and delicious at Fuji Japanese Steakhouse.
