The perfect cure to recover from Toga is a relaxing outdoor concert. That is just what students can get tomorrow in the Brick Pit where Ben Kweller and Marc Broussard will be performing starting at 8 p.m. Kweller, the former front man of the band Radish, will be the headliner.

Kweller's debut album Sha Sha hit the music world in 2002, followed by On My Way in 2004. His latter album is full of sentiment, emotion and melody, which performed live, is sure to soothe a bad hangover.

Lesser known, Marc Broussard is a Louisiana native who claims on his web site to be a "white boy singing soul music." His songs contain influences from Stevie Wonder and Brian McKnight to Louisiana icons like Johnny Allan and G.G. Shin to road warriors like Dave Matthews.

Broussard will open the show, performing for around 75 minutes with Kweller following.

Junior Mary Thigpen, Social Committee Publicity Chair, said it is going to be a great event, especially if it does not rain and the event gets to remain outside.

"If it does rain the concert will be moved to Staples. Regardless, it is a good relaxing event for after Toga. It will be a lot of fun to sit outside and enjoy the summer weather," she said.

Thigpen also said most students seem to be excited about the concert, the only disappointment coming from the possibility of Ben Folds performing.

"Students were able to vote for who they wanted to come. I have been listening to the music because I didn't know who they were before and I really like it. Most of their music is laid back and relaxing," she said.

Senior Shannon Sturgis said any band coming to Hendrix is exciting.

"Hopefully people will come…he'll put on a good show…and it will be a good time," she said. "But it's hard for all of those things to align here at this campus."

Following Kweller's music career for several years, freshman Xochitl Garcia said she has seen him in concert several times, not once leaving disappointed. Garcia is a member of Social Committee and one of two students on the hospitality committee that will be working with Kweller on Saturday.

"He [Kweller] is a really talented musician who has combined the classic rock style with his own quirky style," she said. "He is also one of the few artists with a large fan base that hasn't really done anything to get his music largely accepted. In other words, he hasn't sold out."
