Warrior Baseball Swept Away

The Hendrix baseball team experienced a pair of sweeps these past few weeks, but unfortunately one was for the better and one for the worse. The weekend before last, it hosted Rust College for a doubleheader and had no problems, winning 11-6 and 18-5.

The first win ended a previous rough nine-game losing streak, and was instrumented by a grand slam by Matt Giza, after which the Warriors never looked back. Wheeler Gnat picked up the victory in relief pitching over five solid innings. In the proceeding game, Eric Grafton and Bryan Sexton combined for five runs scored in a game filled with walks, while Ryan Swindle picked up the victory.

The team was not so lucky the next weekend Trinity University, losing 13-1 and 10-0. David Foley drove in Matt Giza for the only run in the first game, but the Warriors had very little to show in the second game, as they were no-hit.

Warrior Softball Bounces Back

The softball Warriors fared no better against Trinity last weekend, losing all four games, 4-0, 3-0, 6-3, and 6-1 in the SCAC West Tournament. While there weren't many notable performances in the first two games, Lauren Seaborn highlighted the third game with a game-tying two-run double, but Trinity pulled again for good after that. Heather Stroud accounted for the lone run in the last game when she scored on a wild pitch.

They fared considerably better the previous weekend when they hosted Central Baptist, sweeping both games of the double header by a combined score of 14-1. In the first game, four consecutive singles combined with a Kim Tallent two-run triple gave Hendrix all the offense it needed, while Tallent also managed to pick up the win in her relief, her sixth of the season. In the second game, Cara and Kim Tallent each had two hits, while McKinzie Fruchtl had two RBIs, while Seaborn had a dominating pitching performance for her eleventh win of the season.
