A 1996 field hockey All-American has been named the inaugural head coach of the new field hockey program. Ellie Karvoski, from Norwalk, Connecticut, was also named an Academic All-American during her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University.

Karvoski went from an interim assistant field hockey coach at Northwestern in 1998 to Assistant Field Hockey Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Hofstra University for three years. She has also served as the Head Coach of the United States Field Hockey New York and New Jersey Futures Program. Most recently, however, she worked for Reliant Pharmaceuticals as a Manager and Field Business Information/Sales Analyst.

"I am thrilled at the opportunity of heading the new field hockey program at Hendrix College. I am eager to start recruiting a team of student-athletes that are passionate and excited to be a part of the new program," Karvoski said. "The community feel of Hendrix offers a unique team environment that serves as a springboard to the development of well-rounded student-athletes. The new Wellness and Athletic Center and the new playing fields will only elevate the level of play for the SCAC. Clearly the College is committed to the development of a comprehensive athletic and wellness program," she said.

In addition to being an All-American, both in hockey and academics, Karvoski was a three time All-Big Ten Performer. She was also inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. A member of the United States National Under 23 Field Hockey team in 1998, she is currently a member of the United States National Rugby Team and for the last five years, has competed on the national level.

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Ellie's caliber interested in taking up the challenge of starting our new field hockey program," said Athletic Director Danny Powell. "She was talented player and student at Northwestern, and she has had a successful career as an assistant coach as well as in private business. We think she'll be able to attract quality students to Hendrix to continue their educations and compete in field hockey at a high level," he said.
