When craving something that has a taste a little south of the border, Hendrix students need not travel far from campus to find it. Discovering the perfect Mexican restaurant to subdue that pesky craving can actually be an easy task in Conway. Within just a few miles of the Hendrix campus, students can find not one, two, or three, but five very popular Mexican restaurants to choose from. Not only are there several Mexican restaurants near campus, there is one right down the road. The new La Huerta Mexican Restaurant is a mere six blocks from campus and is easily reached on foot. While dining at La Huerta's is definitely a treat, all four of the other nearby restaurants are also local favorites.
Conway's newest addition to its already large list of restaurant serving authentic Mexican cuisine is La Huerta Mexican Restaurant located behind Walgreens on Harrison Street. This delightful Mexican restaurant is full of fun and flavor. Customers will notice its festivity as soon as they walk through the door. The walls are painted a bright color and decorated with Mexican paraphernalia. Eating at La Huerta is like eating in the middle of a Mexican fiesta.
Customers will not only appreciate the fun surroundings in La Huerta, they will also notice the fast and friendly service provided by its staff. The hosts, waiters, and pretty much everyone else in the restaurant are friendly and attentive. It is not unusual at La Huerta to have upwards of five or six different staff members to check on a table during a meal. The owner himself enjoys stopping by customers' tables to check and make sure they are having an enjoyable time.
Not only are the location, atmosphere and service commendable at La Huerta, so is the food. This tasty Mexican restaurant offers all the traditional favorites plus some unique dishes. The Hawaiian Fajita is definitely a treat, and at $9, who could say no? This dish includes marinated tender strips of beef, chicken, and shrimp with pineapple, served with sautéed onions, bell peppers and garnished with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, rice and beans, all served on either corn or flour tortillas. This unique dish is just one of several special entrees offered at La Huerta.
While La Huerta offers traditional dishes that match up to other Mexican restaurants, its cheese dip is not that great. The award for best cheese dip at a Mexican restaurant in Conway is still held by Los Amigos restaurant on Prince Street. A favorite of students for many years, Los Amigos still dishes up the best cheese dip in town!
Despite its failure to surpass Los Amigos's delicious cheese dip recipe, La Huerta is still a great place to head when in the mood for Mexican food.
