This is the semester for theater. All across central Arkansas, students have numerous opportunities to experience big city shows for small town prices. From The Reparatory Theatre and Murry's Dinner Playhouse in Little Rock to UCA, there is something for everyone troughout this next semester.
"Crowns," written by Regina Taylor and directed by Lawrence Hamilton, is currently showing at the Arkansas Repertory Theater, or The Rep, and will continue to do so until Feb. 19. A joyous celebration of black women and their church hats, "Crowns" is an intimate look at a cherished custom that joins faith and fashion.
On Mar. 1 at 6:00 p.m., The Rep will be hosting a one-night engagement of "BrewHaHa." Ever had a bad date? Be prepared to tell-all before the show at The Rep's third annual "BrewHaHa," then enjoy someone else's dating woes at a special performance of Theresa Rebeck's hilarious one-woman show, "Bad Dates."
"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, will run March 10 - March 26. This play, directed by David Grapes, was adapted from the best-selling novel.
The New York Daily News calls "Tuesdays with Morrie," "a touching, life-affirming, deeply emotional drama with a generous dose of humor."
It is the true-life story of popular sports columnist Mitch Albom who reluctantly interrupts his chaotic and hectic life to visit Morrie Schwartz, his beloved and ailing former college professor.
"Intimate Apparel" written by Lynn Nottage and directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, will run April 21-May 7. "Intimate Apparel" is a poignant story of love, hope and redemption. Set in 1905, a time when the cut of one's dress and the color of one's skin determined one's station in life, it is the story of Esther, a young woman wounded by betrayal but still unbroken, and her unsinkable determination to use her gifted hands and her sewing machine to refashion her dreams and make them anew from the cloth of her life's experience.
