According to the public report, the officer described discovering over 150 students crammed into the north hallway of Martin Hall and 55-60 students specifically in room 101; the room is that of sophomore Patrick Ford and junior Andrew Vogler. The officer described the scene, reporting, "Almost everyone had a container of alcohol, many were drunkā¦A definite fire safety violation."
Five days later, on Jan. 25, Vogler and Ford received notification from Dean of Students Cassy Bailey that charges had been filed against them and that they were to appear at a hearing in front of the College Judicial Council (CJC), a council of both faculty and students. The charges were: serving alcohol to minors, disruptive and disorderly conduct, fire safety violation, and code of conduct violation.
Eventually, approximately 20 more students would be called to face charges for incidents on that night, ranging from disorderly and disruptive behavior to alcohol policy violations.
Martin hall council members received added charges on Feb. 1 for organizing the suspected "Heaven and Hell" party. The letter sent by Bailey read: "As an officer of the Martin Hall Council, you are receiving this letter regarding the 'Heaven and Hell' party allegedly held in Martin Hall on the night of Friday, January 20, 2006. The College alleges that Martin hall council sponsored an unsanctioned party and charges the council with the following violations: code of conduct; disorderly and disruptive."
The letter also said the CJC will hear Martin hall council as a group.
Vogler and Ford's hearing was originally set for Friday, Feb. 3, but was rescheduled when student member and junior Clair Spivey recused herself from the case for unknown reasons. The hearing has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 a.m. in Buhler Hall. Other students are still waiting for their hearing dates.
"That night was a typical Friday night in Martin," said Ford, who also serves as the hall council secretary. "We knew there would be a big party the first Friday night we came back. It wasn't atypical from anything we've done in the past."
