Last weekend, the men's basketball team traveled to Texas for two conference games. They lost a close game against Southwestern University on Friday night and then lost a game to Trinity University on Sunday afternoon. Both Southwestern University and Trinity University are 6-1 in conference play and tied for first place. The Warriors are currently 2-5 in conference play, 9-8 overall, and tied with Rhodes College for eighth place.
To make the conference tournament, the team must be in the top eight of the league. With seven conference games quickly approaching, the Warriors have a chance to improve their ranking in the league and make it into the conference tournament.
The Warriors have played seven of their last eight games away from Hendrix. There are seven games left in the season and five of them are in Conway. This is something the Warriors can use to their advantage.
According to head coach Dan Priest, this year's team has more depth and a much bigger roster than last year. Depth is a major strength for the team; instead of having one great player, the Warriors have several good, talented players.
One of the weaknesses this season is the inexperience of some of the players. The team has five freshmen this year: David Foley, Rowdy Green, Andrew King, John Paul Noland, and Ryan Wible.
King is currently fourth on the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) scoring list, and he is first among the freshmen with 16.5 points a game. Juniors Matt Secrease and Michael Bennett, as well as Noland, are also in the top 30 on the SCAC scoring list. The Warriors also have the fourth highest scoring offense in the league, averaging 76.1 points a game.
After playing several games in a row away from Hendrix, the team is anxious to play at home again. Come watch as the Warriors take on Centre College tonight at 8 p.m. and Sewanee on Sunday at 1 p.m.
