To the Editor:

I have always considered college as life with training wheels. Students need a time to make mistakes and to determine how they will handle themselves once the wheels are off. Will students have their dear old mom or the Hendrix Administration to determine their actions after graduations? The concept is a bit ludicrous, so why did the administration insist on controlling students' actions during Ghost Roast?

If my mother were to police me this heavily, I would lecture her on my right to privacy and my liberties; perhaps, Hendrix needs such a lecture.

Students need a means of relieving stress. College places ample stress on students. Between papers, tests, studying and determining our future. I think all students deserve an occasional crazy night.

I fear that your, the administration's, to fence in and control parties will result in students partying both in smaller numbers and more varied locations. Students will continue relieving stress, but will Public Safety be able to continue monitoring such a dispersed group?

Dr. McAinsh would say that students and the college are engaged in a classic struggle between "freedom" and "security," as he did in his Oct. 31 Journeys lecture. His lecture explained that students voluntairilly deciding to enroll at Hendrix means they will adhere to Hendrix's policies.

As adults, students have rights that neither Hendrix nor any other person can disregard, and the foremost is our right to peacefully assemble and celebrate (a.k.a.- PARTY) without such intrusive supervision is foremost among them.
