Women's Cross Country team notches four out of top seven times at meet

It was a stellar weekend for the women's cross country team. The women outran McMurry University, Lynchburg College, and a stripped down UCA team at the annual Hendrix Warrior Classic. Senior Julie Coats registered another first place finish, her second on the season. She crossed the finish of the 6K course with a time of 23:21, a new course record. Freshman Laura Broederdorf was the next person to complete the race 45 seconds later. In fourth and seventh place, with times of 25:19 and 25:45, were senior Kristi Leblanc and junior Vanessa Green, respectively. Senior Jennifer Freilino finished 12th at 26:29. Sixteen seconds behind Freilino was freshman Mallory Bader, who finished 15th overall. In her first race of the year, Xochitl Delgado finished in 33:18.

Lynchburg and McMurry will test their luck against the women again this November 12th at the Hendrix hosted NCAA Regional Championships.

Ultimate Frisbee team kicks off season with tournament at Burns Park

Fall has begun and with it starts another exciting tournament season for Ultimate Frisbee. On Saturday October 8th the Flying Squirrels and Gliders hosted a one-day tournament that brought Rhodes, Harding, and University of Memphis to Burns Park for a day of fun and competition.
Hendrix, fielding two co-ed teams, played very spirited and aggressive Frisbee against their opponents. Thomas Lipham had a layout pass deflection in the endzone against Harding, and Rick Hunter showed his veteran style by hand-blocking a throw on defense and then hucking for the score versus Memphis.

"It was a well spirited day that gave new players an introduction to tournament-style play," said Hunter. First years Kady MacFarlane, Robin Ferris-Hanson, Ben Lowknik, William Gaskins, Richard Hinson, Tom Newton, Sara Young, Mike McCallister, and John Beaton all made their squirrel debuts and played solid ultimate.

The mini-tournament was only the start of a busy and exciting tournament season for the squirrels. They will be sending both a men's and a women's team on October 29th and 30th to Vanderbilt's "Itchfest" in Nashville. The following weekend they will travel to Columbia, MO to compete against a mixture of Midwestern liberal arts and D-I universities in "Missouri Loves Company" - hosted by Mizzou. November 12th and 13th the squirrels return to Arkansas to play in JBU's "Hullabaloo Huckfest" in Siloam Springs, and return the following weekend to Burns Park, North Little Rock to play in a hereto unnamed tournament co-hosted by both Hendrix and UCA.
