The Beer Taster

Welcome to the second edition of The Beer Taster. My goal is to inform you of the premium beers, along with the cheap party beers. Since there are several quality beers out there, I am open to all suggestions.

John Courage Amber:

This week's premium beer is John Courage, the best thing to come from England since the Beatles. For all true beer drinkers, this is a solid five-star beer worthy of consumption at any part of the day. However, if you drink beer just for the end result, then this beer is also good for you. John Courage is a pale amber brew originating in London, England. The beer does not possess that strong molded bread smell that you might encounter with other imports, but instead possesses a smell almost as sweet as the taste. Initially, the drinker encounters a mild carbonated taste, but as the liquid goes down, a sweet amber taste persists. A mild aftertaste follows, reminding one of the golden fluid that just entered the body. As one continues to consume the Courage, they will find that the beer is a surprisingly smooth, full-flavored beverage. Unfortunately, the problem with such a fine beverage is that a sixer will set you back about nine bucks.

Paul's Recommendation: A six-pack of Courage and a 12-pack of your favorite lite beer. I promise this will lead to a fun, eventful night that your friends will remind you of when you wake up the following afternoon.

Miller High Life:

My second pick for this edition is a cheap, low-quality beer that all 21-year-old college students can enjoy. Since the early '90's broke, wild college students have found solstice in Miller High Life, "The Champagne of Beers." This 13-dollar 30-pack will achieve more than any bottle of Korbel possibly could. Unfortunately, the only resemblance to champagne that this beer possesses is the refreshing hangover reminding you of your wonderful night. Luckily, this beer is still suitable for those who want to do one thing: get buck wild! Miller High Life is a bottom-of-the-barrel product of the Miller Brewing Company. This authentic pale ale has a watered-down carbonated taste that barely qualifies the ale as a brew. This is not the best tasting beer around - in fact, it is one of the worst - but after ten of these you will swear that it is one of the best beers you have ever had.

Paul's Recommendation: Due to the poor quality of this beer, I suggest you take a shot of cheap whiskey before your first round of beers. I can assure you this will quickly carry you into the "high life."
