The following appeared in an e-mail version of Martin Hall's Dorm Dick, a listserve for Martin alums:

"Congratulations are in order for former Martin President Christian Hester for being elected Student Senate President yesterday. For those that don't know, Christian won the original election. His opponent was some whiny Stuart Lo-type little bitch who also lives in Martin that contested the election when he lost. Christian in turn beat him again, this time taking 64% of the vote, which is an ass-whooping. So congratulations to Christian. And to the unknown little bitch that lives in our sacred Martin Hall: the Captains WILL find out your name and if you ever try to sign up for this dorm dick, we're going to put your name on every horse/cat/squirrel/grandma/transvestite porn website we can find.
-The Captains"

In hindsight, the whole election was a little peculiar. It seemed rather normal that a candidate's parents would call the president of the college and complain about the Senate's decision to have a new election. What was out of the ordinary was that Father Cloyd actually held a meeting to discuss the matter with Ben Hatten, Wayne Clark, Lilian Contreras-Silva and Rob Young. Wait. Rob Young? VP for Finance? Why was he there? He's a Martin alum.

Apparently, four years of Hendrix melodrama isn't enough for some people. They gotta have more! Rob Young's involvement in the matter was always curious, but not until the Profile got ahold of this e-mail was it explainable. Martin alums are working 'round the clock to protect the reputations of their "boys." Calling themselves "The Captains," they imitate reverence for the College's earliest benefactor.

Besides the fact that this letter drips with arrogance (how presumptuous of the writer to suggest that Stuart Lo and Brendan Monaghan aren't true Martin men, whatever that is), it reeks of the kind of fraternity-esque behavior that the civilized folk at Hendrix like to keep at state schools.

It would be a grave disappointment if our new Senate President didn't respond to this e-mail. We all know Christian; we know he's a good guy. It would speak well of him to ask "The Captains" to muster up some maturity and leave the name-calling to the kids at Ida Burns. Don't flaunt your ignorance at us, boys.

This election was a headache for everyone here. You "Captains" are supposed to have moved on. Get a life.
