Leila Plassey, originally from Rogers, AR, graduated from Hendrix in 1998 with a Humanities degree and then went on to receive a Master's in Communication from the University of Arkansas. Plassey returned to Conway to take a job with the Axciom Corporation in January of 2000.

Plassey has decided to run for City Council representing Ward 2 (Position 1), the ward containing Hendrix and the surrounding area. Plassey is seeking office because she "is interested in the way the town was run and what was going on." She also sees some issues in Conway that are not being addressed by the town presently.

One of these issues is jobs in Conway. Plassey's focus is "making Conway more attractive to jobs, specifically higher paying jobs." Plassey feels that when college students graduate, these jobs will be a good incentive for these professionals to stay in Conway.

Plassey's other issue is growth. To address Conway's growth as a city, Plassey wants to Benchmark. "I would like to look at what Conway is doing and compare it to other successful towns, towns that have continued growth like Conway has had." One problem Plassey sees is that "Conway has been considered a bedroom city of Little Rock." Plassey believes Conway can have its own identity separate from Little Rock. "Conway has to decide what they want to be, do they want to be the biggest small town on earth, or the smallest large town on earth."

Adams Weeks, originally from Walnut Ridge, AR, graduated from UCA with an English degree and a Philosophy minor. He has lived in Conway since 1994, and is currently employed by Hendrix College as the Assistant Director of the Media center and Coordinator for Staples Auditiorium.

Weeks is the current Alderman for Ward 2 (Position 1), and will seek re-election next fall. Weeks originally decided to run for office last year because he saw things in his neighborhood that needed to be changed, specifically the poor condition of the sidewalks in the area and the number of stray animals around the town.

While in office this year, Weeks has addressed these issues along with some others. Weeks worked with the mayor, the sanitation director, and the animal control director to totally revitalize the animal control ordinances in Conway, modeling the changes after North Little Rock, that made huge strides in their animal control in recent years.

Weeks also worked to develop a Community Housing Development Organization which seeks to implement and improve affordable housing in the Pine Street area of Conway.

Alderman Weeks is seeking re-election because he wants another term to see some of his projects through to fruition. "You have to shepherd little projects through," said Weeks. "And it takes so much time and energy." Weeks still wants to improve the sidewalks in Ward 2 and also look at forming another (CHODO) should he be elected.
