Dr. Angela Gulielmetti, assistant professor of German at Hendrix College, was notified recently by the Executive Council of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) that she has been selected to participate as a member of the Transatlantisches interkulturelles Nachwuchsfoerderungs programm Deutsch als Fremdsprache (TraiNDaF)) leadership program.

The major goal of TraiNDaF is to develop a strong leadership cadre consisting of younger colleagues who after a period of professional development through this program will be able to inform and develop other colleagues in their region of the United States. The award will allow Dr. Gulielmetti to attend national AATG meetings and participate in a seminar in Germany this summer.

Dr. Gulielmetti received a master's degree and a doctorate in German from Washington University in St. Louis and a bachelor's degree in German from Wesleyan University. She studied at Westfalische-Wilhelms Universitat in Munster, Germany, for two years. She joined the Hendrix faculty in 1999.

Last summer, Dr. Gulielmetti was one of 15 people chosen from across the country to participate in a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute in Vienna exploring the "People of Vienna in a Century of Turmoil — 1848-1955." She spent five weeks at the Diplomatische Akademie in Vienna and participated in workshops, developed curricular projects, attended cultural events, lead discussions on certain topics and enjoyed lectures from experts in the field of architecture, art, literature, politics, economics and history. She also collected materials for the course on Berlin and Vienna that she is teaching this winter.
